ENERGY STAR induction cooktops and ranges have less radiant losses than resistance ranges. Energy efficiency applies to the cooktop portion of the range only, no efficient oven technologies are available. Savings are similar for both induction cooktops and ranges based on ENERGY STAR listed models. ENERGY STAR resistance ranges are excluded from this measure. Savings are based on DOE's test method assumptions of 6.3lb of water boiled and simmered for 20 minutes 418 times per year. Savings were compensated for higher temperature overshoot and mismatched pot/pan to hob diameter losses for resistance units.
