Why are we limiting geo-thermal heat pump systems to just closed loop systems? In Montana we have a lot of water to water systems installed. We also have hydronic slabs that are fired by geo-thermal heat pumps. In addition, we have some systems that are closed pond and lake loops. It seems to me that we should not be limiting the types of geo-thermal systems if they meet the unit energy savings. Water to water and pond loop systems cost less to install and perform well. My suggestion is to include all geo-thermal heat exchanger options as well as hydonic delivery systems.
