This measure is for the installation of an efficient gas water heater in an existing single family or manufactured home at the time of natural water heater replacement. Neither new construction nor multi-family replacement are eligible for this measure. Both storage and tankless water heaters are included in the measure.

Many efficient options are less efficient than the current ENERGY STAR specification (v5.0). For this reason, there are measure applications for water heaters that meet the previous ENERGY STAR specification (v4.0) but not the current specification (v5.0); water heaters that meet the current ENERGY STAR specification (v5.0); and non-condensing tankless water heaters. Within the tankless category, there is a measure identifier for whether or not the home requires a gas line upgrade (from main line to appliance), because of the significant expense of this requirement.
