The residential refrigerator and freezer decommissioning measure applies to refrigerator and freezer units that are over 10 cubic feet  in size and are functional at the time of collection. Savings from this measure include the impact of taking old units off the grid and its effects on the secondary appliance market. The measure also accounts for the non-energy impact of recycling old refrigerator and freezer units.

The most recent update incorporated recent program data to determine the average age and energy consumption of recycled units in recent program years.
