Portable Electric Spas are hot tubs that are bought pre-fabricated (not built on site) and utilize electric heat. This measure addresses Standard style spas with a rated capacity of 700 gallons or less. Inflatable, exercise or combination (exercise and standard in the same unit) spas are not eligible.

Energy usage is determined through the ANSI/APSP/ICC-14 standard. More efficient spas may utilize higher levels of insulation or insulation with a higher R value per inch or through improving the pumping efficiency (controls or pumps). Energy savings occurs when a buyer selects a spa with a lower rated standby demand than they would otherwise have chosen.

This UES calculates the average standby demand and yearly consumption for a baseline and efficient case for the following capacity bins (gallons): 0-200, 201-300, 301-400, 401-500, 501-600, 601-700. In order for a spa to qualify as efficient it must have a rated standby demand of equal to or less than the following requirements based on rated capacity: 130W for 0-200, 140 W for 201-300, 170 W for 301-400, 200 W for 401-500, 210 W for 501-600, and 250 W for 601-700.
