Evaporator fans circulate cold air near the evaporator coil around the refrigerated case and run almost 24/7. The input energy to these fans ultimately becomes heat that the refrigerator system has to remove. Typically fan motors provide 9 to 25 W of output power, ECMs can provide this output power more efficiently that shaded pole motors.
