Description

Proposed Measure: Control strategy(s) for keeping a ductless heat pump as the primary heating unit in homes that also have an electric furnace.

Need: Ductless heat pumps are now a mature technology. Many of the existing and potential installations (especially in manufactured housing) have had electric furnaces as the original heating system. By now, there should be a means of keeping the ductless unit and the primary heating system and locking out the electric furnace out unless the home would require supplemental furnace heat to keep the home at set point. Presumably Daikin has such technology. I think it is time for the RTF to look into this and other available technologies.
