Description

All-in-one clothes washer/heat pump dryers are much more common at retail than they were a year ago. To be on BPA’s tier 3, the dyer must have a minimum Utility Combined Energy Factor (UCEF) of 4.70 and maximum UCEF of 8.00. The all-in-one models only appear in the Energy Star clothes washer list, which shows the Integrated Modified Energy Factor (IMEF) instead of the UCEF. This prevents utilities from claiming any savings on the heat pump dryer portion of the appliance. The proposal is to provide either one energy saving value for these units that takes into account the washer and dryer savings or keep the clothes washer savings as is and add a measure for the dryer savings.
