This measure applies to retrofits of existing packaged heating and cooling equipment with constant speed supply fans installed on rooftops of commercial buildings. An Advanced Rooftop Control (ARC) system saves energy by reducing the supply fan speed when the system is in ventilation-only operation. This version of an ARC system that saves energy primarily through reduced fan speed is referred to as “ARC-light”. A second type of retrofit, referred to as “Full ARC”, can save additional energy by incorporating integrated economizer controls and demand controlled ventilation, which reduces required ventilation when the commercial building is not fully occupied or the need for ventilation is otherwise reduced. Both features can lead a Full ARC system to save heating and/or cooling energy in addition to the fan energy savings from an ARC-light unit.

Direction for Measure Analysis

Decision Details

For the Advanced Rooftop Controls UES Planning measure, estimate savings as if X% of the RTU's would have operated with the supply fan in "auto" mode in the baseline. In the Research Strategy, ask about pre-existing operation of the supply fan: % in auto mode 1-day prior to measure, 2 weeks prior to measure, and 1 year prior to measure installation. Direct CAT to look at available data to help with determining X.
