Description

This would be a measure very analogous to Advanced Rooftop Controls. ARC is about employing a VFD and controls to improve the management of ventilation in a commercial building but a significant portion of the measure is to insure that the economizer functions properly. A control strategy for commercial kitchens like this one also introduces a vfd and more sophisticated controls but I think that a significant portion of it is that it will bring important attention to the issue of make-up air for the kitchen. Just as economizer functionality gets lost in the day-to-day concerns of the conditioning system, folks lose entire track of the necessity of having a properly balanced makeup air system. I recently watched a webinar about a unit that uses a temperature sensor AND a sensor to look for the amount of particulate moving through the system and presumably adjusts the airflow accordingly. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there aren’t other companies that offer a similar scheme for controls but I am wondering how many kitchens are just using some sort of manual (high and low adjustment - or even just on or off) during their cooking process. This is doubtless a potential measure that has more savings on gas energy than electric energy (again, like ARC) but it looks like we are wading into those waters anyway.
